18 Months!

Layla turned one and a half today! She marked the occasion by having a fun day at daycare and then playing at the park with tons of neighborhood kids.

On a sadder note, we were outside chatting with a friend today when we noticed a stray dog that we suspected was the neighbor's. The next thing we knew, the dog ran into the street and was hit by one of the small town buses as it barreled down our street right in front of our house. I ran inside with Layla as it happened because I didn't want to see the outcome. The owner rushed the dog to her house. Seeing that was traumatic, but the whole incident made me think about how much worse it must have been for one of my students to see his friend (also a 4th grader of ours) get hit by a car and thrown 25 feet last week. The student is going to be ok (returning to school next week); I'm not so sure about the dog.
