Better Night

I had to go to 3 stores yesterday to find Mylicon, but it *may* have been worth it. Last night was definitely better, but I'm not entirely convinced it was the medicine. Josh ate later than usual before bed, around 9:30. Then he slept well till about 1:00 and then again till 4. From 4-6 he was pretty gassy, despite the Mylicon. We'll see how the next few nights go before we draw any conclusions.

Uncomfortable Baby

Josh continues to do really well. His evening fussies are (so far) nowhere near as bad as Layla's were, and we are able to all be in bed by 9:00 or so. However, during the night Josh seems to be extremely uncomfortable and very, very gassy. It seems worse than I remember with Layla and there isn't much that helps during the night. We've tried putting him on his side, having him sleep on us, etc. but he continues to squirm and grunt and toot up a storm. Today I'm going to pick up some Mylicon and I'm hoping that helps. I know that this is not an uncommon problem and that it's only a stage.....but it's still frustrating and annoying! Hoping we can all get some more sleep soon.

Haircut

Layla's first haircut! Our neighbor, Jennifer, is a hairdresser and came over to give Layla her first cut.

Here they are preparing.

She actually sat still...for a moment!

Josh wasn't too interested.

Getting Clean

Josh's first bath....not a huge fan!

Happier once it was over.

Josh's second bath...much happier from the start!

Say Hello to Josh!

Family Outing

We ventured into Lexington Center on a beautiful Monday afternoon. After playing at the library, we took a walk through the town greens. Josh slept, of course, and in the background you can see Layla and Daddy checking out the memorials and flags.

Cardio Update

While we were still at the hospital, Josh was diagnosed with a heart murmur. A murmur is an extra sound in the beating of the heart, and it can be caused by lots of different things. An EKG at the hospital revealed normal electrical activity and the docs began to suspect a VSD. A follow-up echo-cardiogram at Children's Hospital showed not one, but three small holes in the muscle wall between the ventricles in his heart. The doctor was not alarmed. The holes do not necessarily combine to create a larger problem (they are very small). He remarked that holes in this location often close spontaneously and recommended a follow-up in a few weeks to monitor for any changes.

Joshua Chamberlain Farnham

Joshua arrived at 8:47 on Thursday, September 9th. He tipped the scale at 8lb 12oz and he measured 20.5in long. We are in love!

More (and better) pics to come soon, but we wanted to get something up here for those who may not have heard the news.

Josh is such a good baby and we are all adjusting well to life as a family of 4. Grandmommy and Granddaddy have been staying with us this past week and they have really helped Layla through this transition (not to mention all the help they've given to Mommy and Daddy, with dishes, cooking, cleaning, driving, and baby snuggles!). We also enjoyed visits from Mimi and Bumpa and Aunt Trish and family. Thanks for all the love!

Layla is doing well....she is appropriately curious, excited, and jealous.

Here's Josh during his second day of life:

And here he is getting ready to leave the hospital:

Today we had his appointment with the pediatrician. Like all babies, Josh had lost weight in the hospital, dropping down to 8lb at one point. Most babies take 10 days to regain their birth weight, but Josh is an overachiever already and weighed in at 8lb 13oz!

Thursday, it is!

My doc called today and moved my section up to Thursday at 8am. So it looks like Joshua will be born on 9/9/10....unless he has other plans in the next 36 hours!

Allergy?

Today Layla had a few tiny bites of Daddy's cashews. She seemed to love them even though they were heavily spiced. About 10 minutes later I noticed red blotches around her mouth and one or two on other parts of her face. Nothing anywhere else and that was the extent of her symptoms. She hasn't reacted to the peanut butter she's had, so that's good, but there's always the potential for a looming tree nut allergy. That would be a huge bummer for all of us. We'll chat with the pediatrician when we see her for Joshua's first appointment some time next week!

We took a nice walk to Wilson Farm today, where Layla enjoyed fresh strawberries and a chocolate lollipop. On the way home we stopped at the playground behind our church.
