Could Have Been Worse!

Layla slept through the night and seems ok this morning. We haven't tried any daring food or whole milk, but I think she's over the worst of this bug. We are very thankful that we weren't up all night doing laundry! Our time will come, I'm sure...but at least for this weekend, we were spared.

Stomach Bug

I should have known something was up when Layla wasn't demanding her after-school graham crackers. Lucky me, while we were driving down 95, she decided that would be a good time to vomit....everywhere. And on the c-c-coldest day of the year (read, I didn't exactly spend quality time cleaning the car...which will be that much more fun to finish in the morning). Once we got home she couldn't keep anything down. Poor Chris took the brunt one time. She's not a juice kid so she refuses to drink pedialyte. We finally got her to keep down a few tiny helpings of watered down milk and a few oyster crackers. By the time bedtime rolled around, she was exhausted and went down no problem. We're crossing our fingers that she (and her food) stays down for the night!

Trader Joe's to the Rescue

Layla was a bit fussy and demanding graham crackers (lately this is all she wants when I pick her up, even though they've just fed her a snack at daycare...she will settle for nothing less than at least 4 whole graham crackers!) this afternoon when we stopped for some errands. Luckily, the red balloon, courtesy of Trader Joe's, put her in a fabulously silly mood for the remainder of our shopping trip, the entire ride home, and much of the evening.

QUACK!

Layla is finally big enough to wear her flannel ducky pj's that Mimi made for her. She loves to point at all of the ducks :).

These are a few of my favorite things...

Favorite food as of late: Garlic Lovers' Hummus. Seriously. She eats it by the spoonful. I'm pretty sure I could smother anything in this hummus and she would eat it!

Favorite YouTube video: Jack Black in Yo Gabba Gabba Unfortunately, Layla hasn't quite grasped the message in the song.

In other news, Layla must be eating plenty these days because in the past week she has received the following comments:

"Your belly is as big as your head!" - Aunt Christie

"Her belly looks like it has a baby in it!" - 5 year old friend, Maggie

Fun with a Pull Toy

Layla, sporting an adorable outfit!

More CT Pics

Cousins!

We took a day trip to CT to play with Daniel and Sofia. It's so much fun to watch the kids play together....well, at least side by side. Layla and Daniel enjoyed battling for use of the same toys. Sofia had a lot of playtime today, too, and in the pic below you can see the two girls playing with the singing piggy bank. But by far, Layla's favorite playmate of the day was the big, fluffy cat, Truffle....and, of course, the fun ball pit!

Recent Pics...

Some pics from the past few weeks.

Layla meets her Great Uncle Billy and says "Thanks for the bear!"

Layla LOVES to examine the pictures of her cousins. Notice, I did not post the pic of her attempting to eat the pictures of her cousins :).

And.....the shadow.

Friday, January 8, 2010

Tonight while Mommy and Daddy were finishing dinner, Layla discovered, and was cautiously intrigued by, her shadow. She would slowly approach the wall and then make her way back to Daddy for a secure hug. Sadly, we weren't able to snap a picture of this endearing moment!

My Shadow - Robert Louis Stevenson

I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me,
And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.
He is very, very like me from the heels up to the head;
And I see him jump before me, when I jump into my bed.

The funniest thing about him is the way he likes to grow--
Not at all like proper children, which is always very slow;
For he sometimes shoots up taller like an india-rubber ball,
And he sometimes goes so little that there's none of him at all.

He hasn't got a notion of how children ought to play,
And can only make a fool of me in every sort of way.
He stays so close behind me, he's a coward you can see;
I'd think shame to stick to nursie as that shadow sticks to me!

One morning, very early, before the sun was up,
I rose and found the shining dew on every buttercup;
But my lazy little shadow, like an arrant sleepy-head,
Had stayed at home behind me and was fast asleep in bed.
