Cardio Update

While we were still at the hospital, Josh was diagnosed with a heart murmur. A murmur is an extra sound in the beating of the heart, and it can be caused by lots of different things. An EKG at the hospital revealed normal electrical activity and the docs began to suspect a VSD. A follow-up echo-cardiogram at Children's Hospital showed not one, but three small holes in the muscle wall between the ventricles in his heart. The doctor was not alarmed. The holes do not necessarily combine to create a larger problem (they are very small). He remarked that holes in this location often close spontaneously and recommended a follow-up in a few weeks to monitor for any changes.
