Zula Patrol Quotes Uncle Jim

Though it's not Mom or Dad's favorite, Layla sometimes enjoys watching Zula Patrol on PBS...you know.....way, way out where the planets do the hula! Ok, so maybe you didn't know :).

On tonight's episode, one alien stated to the other that they were in the middle of nowhere. The second alien responded by explaining that everywhere is somewhere. Clearly, the writers of the show were eavesdropping on our family vacation back in the late 80s (?). I can't recall where we were or where we were headed, but Jim (and Mere, obviously) were quite young. When one of my parents stated that WE were in the middle of nowhere, Jim, the young philosopher, insisted that this was not possible because, as the aliens repeated, everywhere is SOMEwhere! It must have been adorable at the time because that story has been told many times since that vacation in the Adirondacks, or the midwest, or New England, or wherever we were!

Hey Jim, it's a good thing the aliens weren't having ice cream floats or I'd have another story to tell :).

For the official record, as one of the two parents present, the middle of nowhere was somewhere in southern Montana....we had taken one of those delightful side trips so prominently featured in the movie Family Vacation and we got lost. As the father, I felt responsible for bringing my kith and kin safely to civilization, and my 10 year old son chose that moment of angst to engage in a philosophical enigma focusing on a metaphorical oxymoron. I promise you, Layla will test your epistemological foundation in the future....if one is fortunate, life is the process of making good memories. Thanks for sharing that one.

Ah, the shame of it all. Grandmommy, always lovingly pointing out my miscues, of which there have been many, said the above incident occurred in the Adirondacks when Jim was 4 which demonstrates several truths: 1) Jim's observation about the laws of physics and the space time continuum was even more remarkable at 4 years old, 2) my gray matter is more charcoally gray, 3) I better run any memory through my soulmate and life long editor before I publish it.shes

Aha....I kinda thought that it wouldn't have seemed quite so cute if he'd been 10. Thanks for clearing that up, mom :).
